This weekend there are Winter Conferences being held across the country by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. The Winter Conference for the South West Wisconsin Division will be hosted by Carthage College's chapter of InterVarsity. This is a great opportunity for the members of the chapter to practice stewarding to their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ however, the topic for this years conference is Sexuality. This topic should be a great one for the average Christian college student because it is something that we all deal with at one point or another. I believe that all involved will learn something useful from it.
However there is much debate over wether or not it should be allowed between students at Carthage. The IVers as we call ourselves know that it is not going to be anti-gay nor against anyone at all but there are students on campus who have not taken the time to find this out nor even learned at all anything about the conference other than what it says on the posters posted around campus who have decided that it is going to be completely anti-gay and thus constitutes hate crime which is against the constitution as all educated Americans know. There is a petition going around the campus that has been signed by hundreds of students working to cancel the conference all together.
Last night, we had a meeting planned for all of the students who are hosting students from the other schools in their rooms for the 2 nights they will be on campus. This meeting should have taken no more than an hour however because of all the drama of this petition it took almost 2 hours as we also discussed what had happened, what was going to happen, and what we could do to help the situation. We also spent about 20 minutes praying about the situation for the people complaining about it and also just for the conference as a whole that everything would go well and that people who did not know Jesus before would come to meet him and decide to give their lives to him.
No matter what the outcome of these next couple days is. This weekend will be wonderful. I pray that all of those involved are at peace with the outcome.
I ask you to pray for everything to be resolved peacefully and that God's will be done.
God's peace be with you today and always. Don't forget that He loves you.
