Sevilla/Seville for all you English speakers

This past weekend I took a trip with my program to Sevilla.  It was very nice but a long bus ride that I could have done without.  It was 6 hours on the bus but it took about 8 because there is a law in Spain that requires bus drivers to stop and rest for half an hour every two hours.  What are they babies?  Our bus drivers drive for way longer than that without a stop.  But oh well cannot change that can we.  It was a fine bus ride we watched movies and slept...well everyone else slept.

In Sevilla we went to a Flamenco show on Friday night.  It was nice but really short and there were only two dances the rest were just music from a guitar with vocals.  The costumes were not the traditional ones that everyone thinks of either.  Overall the show was a disappointment.

Saturday, we went to the catherdral and giralda right away.  The cathedral is the second largest in the world and you can tell why when you look at it.  It was gorgeous but honestly, I do not think anything will ever beat the Sagrada Famila for me.  The Grialda was a 34 story climb to the top of a tower with the most magnificent view.  It was great but the tour got a little too long.  The tour guide really liked to share information with us.  Though most people were not listening.  We got a break for lunch after this and then it was time for a tour of the gardens of Re-alcazar.  This was very pretty as well and had many different things to look at but it got long as well because again the tour guide was trying to shove as much information as he knew into us.  At this point all of us just wanted a nap.  We were set free for the rest of the day after this so Adrienne and I went shopping, had some ice cream, and ate dinner before going back to the hotel and watching Snow White on tv.

Sunday, we saw Plaza Espana which is what George Lucas used as Queen Amildala's palace in Star Wars Episode 2.  We also walked through Barrio de Santa Cruz which is the oldest neighborhood in Sevilla.  Then we had time for lunch and last minute shopping.  We got on the bus at 2pm and stopped every two hours the whole way back to Alicante.  We arrived in Alicante at approximately 10pm which was an hour after our scheduled arrival.  Thank you to the lowest level of students for holding us up in leaving.

Over all it was a great weekend and there will be more Spam from Spain to come.
