Switzerland and the Festival's Commencement

Lots has happened since I last had the chance to sit down and share in my experiences abroad during this last month before reality sets in.

Jesse and I went to Switzerland las weekend.  It was a lot of fun and a good way to relax yet see stuff at the same time.  We went to Basel which is the second biggest city in the country.  It is not a touristy city we found out but for some reason there are a ton of museums to see.  We saw the Pupenhaus Museum or in English, the Dollhouse Museum.  We also visited the Swiss Jewish Museum which was interesting and very small...most things we not in English or well labeled so we didn't learn much.  We also did a walking tour of the old city and saw gorgeous views of the Rhine river.  We ate food from a convenience store our first night as it was 9pm by the time we got around to dinner.   Then the second night as we thought there was a kitchen at the hostel we decided to get food and make dinner because cooking sounded fun and cheaper than a meal in a restaurant...we were wrong on both accounts it turns out.  We ended up cooking our totellini alfredo in a microwave.  The food wasn't terrible but it definitely wasn't what we were expecting either.

This week marked the beginning of the 64th Film Festival in Cannes.  We got our badges on Wednesday which we promptly used in order to be able to walk around and feel special while just exploring the differences that have taken over our quiet little resort town.  We went to a Lady Gaga concert as well as just stood and looked at the red carpet for a long while.  The opening night is always impossible to get into for people not in the business so we had to take a back seat on that one but it was ok because we got to see where it all happened.

Thursday we decided we needed to try and actually see a movie or something so we got dressed up and headed into town about 4pm to get in the "Derniere Minute" line for the 7:30 showing of "Sleeping Beauty" however somehow we forgot that with our badges we cannot get into the 7:30pm showing and though we were at the front of the line got turned away...to make matters worse we were wearing heels and after 3 hours of walking and standing in heels we were unable to make it back to the college without stopping a bunch of times and walking on the sand instead of the sidewalk...luckily we do live in a coastal town.  The good part of the night was getting to see Rachel McAdams, Diane Kruger, Jane Fonda and many other famous people up close and getting pictures of most of them.

Friday we decided to take things easy and just relax in the room because it wasn't great weather. We also went to see "We Need to Talk About Kevin" at La Licorne theater which we have priority at with our badges.  It was an absolutely amazing film that everyone should see.  When it comes out I will definitely be seeing it again.  We walked back and skipped dinner for the second night in a row as we weren't hungry.  It was a nice night of just sitting around and talking with people from home.

This morning we got up bright and early to get tickets for tonight at the Palais.  We did get tickets for the Bollywood film showing at 11:30pm which means that we get to walk the red carpet tonight!!!

More Confessions to Come.
